Lettuce 'Mixed Varieties' - Seeds

Lettuce 'Mixed Varieties' - Seeds

A superb blend of Cos, red-tinged Batavia and Oak-leaf lettuce varieties. Why buy salad leaves from the supermarket when you can grow them easily at home? And you can get up to 3 crops from the same sowing! Ideal for garden or containers. Ready to eat in just 3 weeks. Growing instructions given on packet.

SMALL SPACES made easy! Are you feeling left behind by the "grow-your-own" revolution because you live in a gardenless apartment or have a postage-stamp-sized patio? Don't worry: Anyone with a sunny windowsill, patio, or balcony can cultivate home-grown vegetables. In fact, choosing plants that are nutritious, delicious, and attractive is the ultimate way to maximise limited space. We've tried and tested these varieties suitable for small spaces and know they'll succeed, but that's not to say there aren't other vegetable seeds that you could try!

Tom says: Quick and easy lettuces are many peoples first veggie crop. Try mixing red and green lettuce leaves to add a note of bitterness to salads, or try slicing up little gem lettuces and sauteing with peas and garlic for an alternative homegrown lunch.

Growing Information

Full growing instructions given on packet. Sow thinly into pots or tubs of quality moist compost, covering lightly with compost. Place in a sunny position and maintain moisture. Harvest by ‘tipping’ with scissors when the leaves are 10-12cm (4-5"). A further harvest may be taken from re-growth. Sow little and often for tasty young leaves. Alternatively sow in outdoor border soil or in a container on the windowsill indoors. Sow: April-August. Harvest: May-October.
